Q. If I cannot attend a workshop to learn graphic skills, what products will help me get started?
A. The Grove offers a variety of products to assist someone learning to draw.
Fundamentals of Graphic Language Practice Book—moves step by step from basic strokes and lettering to improvisations.
Pocket Pics contains more than 100 icons for some of the more difficult-to-draw concepts.
Graphics—Just in Time is a video kit that helps you learn the basics of flipchart graphics, lettering and simple icons.
Graphic Improvisations—is a video kit that helps you learn to combine simple shapes to create a lexicon of graphic images and icons.
Of course practice makes perfect...we suggest the Charters Markers and paper!
Q. I am interested in becoming a graphic facilitator. What products will be useful?
A. The best place to start is with The Grove’s Facilitation Guide Series. The Principles of Facilitation is the first book in the series and includes 40 basic principles, organized around the four flows of activity that a facilitator needs to manage in any group process. Best Practices for Facilitation is a collection of 175 activities that a facilitator can suggest to a group to help accomplish its work together.
Q. I’ve never used a Graphic Guide before. Which one should I start with?
A. Each Graphic Guide is designed for a specific group need. To get your feet wet, we recommend using some of the easier templates. Meeting Startup will align a group on what they it is trying to achieve in a meeting and how it is going to do it. Another option is the Graphic History, which enables a group to capture lessons from its past while getting buy-in. The Cover Story Vision is a fabulous brainstorming activity to get a group to think outside the box and envision a truly successful future.
Q. What is the difference between the TPM Handout & the Abstract?
A. The Team Performance Abstract is a 24-page booklet with an in-depth description of the Drexler/Sibbet Team Performance™ Model, including the history, background and theoretical foundations of the model. The Team Performance Handout is a 4-page brochure designed to orient teams to the TPM and how it is framed.
Q. I’m starting a new team. Should I purchase the Comprehensive Kit or the Team Start-Up Kit?
A. It all depends on what results you want from your team. Both kits are a great introduction for teams incorporating the Drexler/Sibbet Team Performance™ Model.
The Team Comprehensive Kit contains Team Performance products for both the leader of the team and its participants. The comprehensive kit also includes the Graphic Gameplan Graphic Guide so the team can start planning its project.
Team Start-Up Kit includes everything needed to assist a team in understanding its charter, current context, and how to decide on priorities, roles and key strategies. The kit incorporates more of The Grove’s Strategic Visioning™ Process and includes products in areas from planning to action.
Another option is to start with the Team Leader Guide: Strategies and Practices. As the title suggests, it is targeted specifically for a team leader charged with leading a team to achieve results.
Q. Can I use LearningConnect templates for something other than focus groups or market research?
A. Absolutely. The LearningConnect templates can be used for multiple applications. For example, “Success Looks Like This” is a great icebreaker to kick off a team. “Side by Side” can be used to examine what worked and what didn't in a debrief session or to compare and contrast ideas. “Circle Around” is a good way to record themes and draw connections in a storytelling activity. Although the accompanying Leader’s Guides are written for the LearningConnect process, they were developed with other applications in mind.
Q. What are the benefits of using the Personal Compass with my team?
A. There are plenty of benefits. Many team leaders have introduced the Personal Compass to their teams as a way for team members to first understand their own vision and then develop a shared vision for the whole team. The Personal Compass has also been used in many coaching and career-development appplications.
Q. What are the benefits of using the Personal Compass in my organization?
A. In order for an organization’s vision to be truly embraced by all, each individual should see where he or she fits within that organization. The Personal Compass can aid individuals at a personal level prior to any work done at the organizational level.
Q. What makes your Charters Markers superior to other markers?
A. The nib and the ink. Charters Markers nibs have a chisel tip that allows for variable line thickness and are made of a sturdy material that will not get mushy. The inks are vibrant, non-permanent and odor-free. We have also increased the ink-carrying capacity so that our markers last longer. Also, the base is triangular, which keeps the Charters from rolling off of tables.
Q. What is the benefit of using large sticky notes?
A. Our large sticky notes are good for brainstorming sessions and getting the group engaged. The large size allows for words and drawings to be more visible from a distance. The visibility of the larger format makes for accurate reproduction in meeting follow-up documentation.
Q. Do you recommend the 25-yard roll or 50-yard roll of paper?
A. The 50-yard roll of paper is more economical but is heavier than the 25-yard roll of paper, which is easier to manage. For small to medium-sized users, we recommend the 25-yard roll.
